Project aims

The primary objective is the development, testing and application of innovative technologies for the production of hydrogen by means of electrolysis powered by renewable energies.

Even today wind energy plants sometimes need to be shut down when the electric grid lacks sufficient capacity. In the upcoming years renewable energies will temporarily deliver more power than is actually needed.

The “Energiepark Mainz” can be part of a solution for this problem: It can help to store the green excess electricity by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and thus supply energy which can be used independent of time. Renewable energy can thus be used extremely flexibly and is available when it is actually required.
